Care Support

The purpose of this course is to equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to work effectively in a variety of care settings. It also aims to promote good practice and respect for diversity in care work.

This course is designed to support you to achieve an understanding of the key responsibilities and entitlements of a health care worker and the importance of working effectively as part of a team. You will explore different modes of communication that will enable you to deal with people in ways that are consistent with the role of a health care worker. You will gain insight into the need for continued development in care work. You will achieve this by examining and reflecting upon your own personal experience.

Once you have completed this course you will be able to:

  1. Discuss the roles, responsibilities and entitlements of a care worker
  2. Examine the role of a care worker within the multidisciplinary healthcare team
  3. Demonstrate the ability to plan and provide enhanced quality care
  4. Apply knowledge gained to plan and meet the needs of the individual client
  5. Explore the need for personal planning and growth
  6. Plan strategies to improve own personal development
  7. Reflect on personal effectiveness as a care worker to include own strengths and weaknesses
  8. Reflect on relationships with clients, relatives and multidisciplinary team members and interpersonal issues that arise in care work.

Elevation Training operates an open admissions policy and welcomes applications from all learners who meet the stated minimum entry requirements for the programme, irrespective of social, cultural and/or educational backgrounds. We communicate in a professional and courteous manner to all those who express an interest in undertaking a programme with us.

All learners entering our programmes are expected to be proficient at reading, researching, understanding, drafting and preparing information, across a broad range of topics. Learners applying to our programmes should have a minimum of a level 4 certificate, or leaving certificate, and/or equivalent qualification. Decisions on admission to a programme are transparent and consistent, and we treat all applicants in a fair and equitable manner.

Applicants who do not meet entry criteria based on previous certified learning achievement may be entitled to be considered based on professional experience, informal or non-formal learning (See Access, Transfer & Progression Policy, ETP 3.03).

Learners, for whom English is not their first language, may be required to provide evidence of their level of English competency. Learners will not be admitted if it is deemed that their level of English proficiency would disadvantage them.

  2. Learner Record 70%

You will be expected to complete a written assignment, weighted at 30%, along with a reflective learner record, weighted at 70%. These assessment pieces are completed during self-directed learning time over the duration of the course.
